    In A First, Architecture's Most Prestigious Prize Is Awarded To Two Women

    The School of Economics Building at the Universita Luigi Bocconi, in Milan, Italy, was designed by Grafton Architects — founded by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. It was named World Building of the Year at the inaugural World Architecture Festival in 2008, and launched Grafton Architects as a leading designer of university buildings.

    Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara founded Grafton Architects in Dublin in 1978. The Pritzker Architecture Prize jury called the two Irish architects "beacons" in a male-dominated field.
